New Technology Of The 1960s

How did new computer technology of the 1960s change American culture?
How did new computer technology change American culture? How did it influence individual lives?
This is for technology in general
Are you referring to technological innovations in general or specifically computers?
Ok I see in terms of technology in general it most of the technological innovations that were to shape the next twenty years happened in the fifties, but did have significant impact on the 1960’s.
I will give you a list instead of writing out a speech, as I am prone to doing:
Cars: Important!! Were being developed and sold cheaper, any self respecting family of that time was required to have a car. More oil was being discovered, thus cheaper gas thus more cars, which could run more efficiently people with cars. More cars led to suburbia (many houses that are very uniform in nature, drive down a street in the suburbs sometime and you will see what I am talking about. The reason for the suburbs was that with the advent of cars people could commute from works, where as people used to live where they work.
Suburbs: changed american culture: when people lived where they worked (usually in major cities and would live in apartments) this made the city very ethnically, religiously Diverse ETC. When suburbs came in only certain desirable could live their or even afford to live their if they wanted. These people were referred to as WASPS (White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant). This made suburbs very bland and led to boredom in many people especially women (think of the bored housewife in many 1950s and 60s tv shows) With this boredom along came a need for entertainment and walla the TV
TVs: Used extensively to listen to news, entertain kids, show commercials ETC. helped individuals be entertained.
Society: helped companies show commercials, led to more of a consumer atmosphere and once again walla big box stores and malls began to spring up.
Malls/supermarkets/bbs: a result of people needing to buy more goods that were available at the time because of more technology being developed. Also because of the convenience factor, if people were going to drive all the way to the city, they wanted to buy everything in one location.
Technological advances relation to products: More technological advances sprang up (TV (noted before) more electric appliances (microwaves, toasters ETC).
Consequence on society: Break down of traditional family atmosphere. More convenience families didn’t work or even eat together any more. There was no family harvests or games (just tvs or microwave dinners).
These are the bog ones, see how they are interconnected it was simply a cycle one advance led to another and here we are answering questions over the internet today, amazing if you think about it!
Sorry for my abhorrent lack of grammar, I am in a rush.
